I didn't write yesterday because I spent the day with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We just moved across the state eight months ago and while I've made great friends out here, it's so nice to have visits from friends and family "back home." So we spent the day yesterday together in the best way; we went shopping. First we went up to the outlets and then we spent the rest of the day walking around downtown Saratoga. Yesterday was one of the first days it's been above freezing, and even though it was a little rainy, it felt like paradise. It's been one of the longest coldest winters I can remember and with a newborn I've barely gotten out of the house. I'm going stir crazy and so is the dude so it was amazing to get out of the house.
Due to the weather SG rode in the stroller with the cover and LD got wrapped. Since we were going in and out of stores I used a front cross carry which is poppable. He's a little bit big for a front carry height wise, the weight isn't a problem for me though and I was wearing my borrowed Pavo which is a total rockstar. We spent a lot of time in the bookstore which is not surprising if you know our family at all, and of course we hit up the toy store too. At the end of the day mommy bought a new outfit, LD got a puzzle, SG took home a rattle and we all got fresh air and excersize. It was a good day.
At dinner I decided to put SG in the wrap because he'd been in his carseat for 4 hours at that point and I couldn't stand to have him apart from my body any longer. I ordered a two hand meal so I put him up on my back when the food came. Now if you've never watched a newborn getting back wrapped let me tell you, it never really looks good. It looks even worse when the baby is already cranky and gets his foot tangled in the wrap which is a size 5 (aka entirely too long for a newborn ruck.) So here I am in a corner of a fairly crowded restaurant while my husband and friend sit there eating. SG is screaming and everyone is looking at me. The waitress and another woman offer to "help" with "someone call CPS" looks on their faces and I start to get flustered. There is a moment when I almost give up but then I think to myself how embarrassing that would be and I just look at the floor and plow through. In the end its not a perfect wrap job, and he doesn't stop crying completely because he's actually hungry, but he settles down and I get to eat my sandwich with both hands. So what if I got embarrassed and it didn't go smoothly, its not always easy, that's reality. And too bad for anyone I made uncomfortable, I was doing what was best for me and my baby at the time and that ladies (and gentlemen) is why we're here.
