OK so I have total writers block right now, but I need to post something so Im just going to start writing and see how this thing shapes up. So I've had this Pavo Taj visiting as I've been breaking it in. I love breaking in wraps, just having them in my hands and manipulating them, braiding and running the rings it's soothing. It's not completly done yet, but I'll be sending it home soon. This has been a hard wrap for me to review for a couple reasons. For one thing as I just said I was still breaking it in so it was a little stiff when I first started wrapping with it. Second it's a 7 which for this 5 foot nothing 125lb mama is way way way too much wrap, but it did give me a chance to try out some new carries like taiwanese and Double Hammock with a sternum belt. I also planned to try tandeming LD and SG in one wrap, but I haven't gotten brave enough to try that yet. But anyway my biggest problem reviewing it is because it is a natty Pavo I keep comparing it to Gotham Marble which I have a major crush on. So yeah nothing is going to compare to Marble for me so let's just get that out there right now, but at the same time Pavo has never disappointed me. Not being as good as marble is not the same as being a dud; Taj is a great wrap in it's own right. As I said in the first impressions review when I first got the wrap the thing that surprised me most is that although the details are the same: same type of cotton, same weight, Taj just feels so much thinner to me. I guess I would classify it as medium thin. There is a lot of texture in the wrap and it feels a little rough in between my fingers even as it breaks in, but it's not scratchy. Due to the texture it also has a lot of grip and can be a bit difficult to tighten especially over a thick shirt or sweater, but the good side of grip is that it stays in place and tends to forgive a sloppy wrap job more than smoother wraps. The slightly thinner feel kept me from overheating too much on an 80 degree walk with LD, and it makes a nice small tight knot. Taj does not have as much stretch or bounce as marble, but maybe you prefer that. For being 100% cotton Pavo wraps always surprise me with how supportive they are, and while I have to way Taj isn't the most supportive cotton I've used, it still holds the dude just fine. If you are like me and you love natty wraps and lots of texture, and if you are looking for something that is a nice supportive cotton, without a lot of bulk then I have no problem recommending a Taj. I think I would find a lot of use for it in a 3 or 4. It can't replace marble though, just sayin ;) |
